Glossary.

The language ProbeAI uses, and the language sonographers use, in one place.

The words on the screen.

Slide
Moving the probe across the skin while keeping the same angle.
Rock
Tilting the probe along its long axis, toward the head or the tail, without moving the footprint.
Fan
Tilting the probe side to side across its short axis to sweep the beam through the organ.
Rotate
Turning the probe about its own axis, for example a quarter turn from lengthwise to crosswise.
Cue
A single on-screen instruction, one at a time: slide, rock, fan or rotate, with an arrow.
Probe marker
The notch or dot on one side of the probe that matches the orientation marker on screen. By convention it points toward the head.
Coaching moment
A short on-screen tip that appears inside the scanning workflow when it is needed, for example "Can't find it".

Guiding the scan, not the diagnosis.

Acquisition
Getting the image: placing the probe, adjusting it, and capturing the views a protocol needs. What ProbeAI guides.
Diagnosis
The clinical conclusion the veterinarian reaches from the exam and the patient. Made by the veterinarian, never by ProbeAI.
Protocol
A defined set of required views for one organ or window, with a starting landmark and a capture checklist. Each organ in the abdominal exam has its own protocol.
View
One standard image plane within a protocol, for example the lengthwise view of the bladder.
Lengthwise (sagittal)
A view along the long axis of the organ, head to tail.
Crosswise (transverse)
A view across the organ at right angles to the long axis.
Landmark
The anatomical starting point for a protocol, for example the pubic bone for the bladder.
Capture
Saving a view once it matches the protocol. In ProbeAI the app captures and ticks the checklist when the view is confirmed.

What the target looks like.

Anechoic
Black on the image, because fluid lets the beam pass without echoes. A full bladder is anechoic.
Hyperechoic
Bright on the image, from strong echoes. Gas, bone and some walls read hyperechoic.
Acoustic shadow
The dark band behind something that blocks the beam, such as gas or a stone.
Sector
The fan-shaped field of a curvilinear or phased-array probe, apex at the top. The shape in the ProbeAI mark.

Where the scans go today.

POCUS
Point-of-care ultrasound: focused scans done by the treating clinician at the patient, rather than a full study by a sonographer.
Video (HDMI) output
The port on many ultrasound machines that sends the live screen image to an external display. ProbeAI connects there.
Mobile sonographer
A visiting operator who comes to the practice to scan, typically on a schedule and for a per-visit fee.
Tele-guidance
Remote coaching of an on-site operator by a specialist on a live call.
Referral
Sending the case to another hospital for the scan. The study, and often the client, go with it.
